By Phil Murphy
Back when Governor Christie first endorsed Donald Trump for President, I immediately called on him to either do his job — or quit. More than 20,000 New Jerseyans agreed, signing a petition urging Christie to put the interests of our state ahead of Trump and his own political ambitions.
Since then, Christie has doubled down on his support of a xenophobic misogynist. And he’s ignored New Jersey.
Enough is enough. It’s time for Governor Christie to immediately resign — add your name to the petition.
He’s working for Trump as chair of his transition team, and he’s welcomed him — and Trump’s dangerous proposals — to the Garden State. Just days after Christie campaigned with Trump, he vetoed a bill that would have taken guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, vetoed reform of the Port Authority, and he’s done nothing to fix the Transportation Trust Fund.
Christie isn’t doing his job, he sold out New Jersey values, and he’s doing harm to our state to support Trump.
Here’s what the Star Ledger said in yesterday’s editorial calling for Christie’s resignation:
“He ditched us to run for president, then started his feather dance for the fire-breathing base voters, selling his soul by flipping on meaty issues like guns, education, and immigration…Christie is now managing Trump’s transition, a big job that ensures he won’t be spending much time earning his salary. Please, governor, resign.”
New Jersey can’t wait while Christie jets around the country, and we can’t allow Trump to become the next President of the United States.
It’s time for all of us to step up and send a message. Let’s show the country that New Jerseyans are leading the fight against Christie and Trump — add your name and sign the petition.
Thank you.
